A Língua dos Pássaros is a striking photo series created by Brazilian photography duo Mar+Vin. Originally shot for Vogue Brasil in 2022, the series features a model who poses as various beautiful tropical birds. Mar+Vin's interpretation of Maya Angelou's novel "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" is a powerful response to the themes of oppression, racism, and resilience explored in the book. However, in their version, the birds (beautiful black women) are not caged but rather standing tall and signing their power. Through their art, Mar+Vin share a positive and hopeful representation of the black body and marginalised communities.
A Língua dos Pássaros is a stunning visual tribute to the beauty, strength, and resilience of black women.
